Months of planning, weeks of dieting, and hours of makeup add up to fashion’s most hotly anticipated event—the Oscars, of course. But while some celebs clearly took some very questionable advice, these 8 ladies nailed it and earned a spot on my coveted Best Dressed List. You’re welcome, girls.
Lady Gaga
While my spies inside the Vanity Fair after party said that LG looked stiff and waxy IRL, I must say she photographed beautifully. J’adore her Versace gown but that ridiculous scarf has to go—it’s matronly and very 80s, neither of which I condone. But considering all of the other bizarre looks she could’ve worn, this look lands her on my Best Dressed List anyway!Photo Credit: WENNEvan Rachel Wood
Even though I find ERW to be a tad irritating and pretentious (I mean does she need three names, really?) I did enjoy her emerald Elie Saab gown. In a sea of bland beige and white gowns, it was a refreshingly sumptuous choice that was tailored perfectly and was sexy without being trashy or inappropriate. Very Great Gatsby, don’t you think dolls? She kept with the Roaring 20s theme with subtly styled hair and a box clutch—tres on trend—for an overall look that was amongst my faves of the evening. Bye-bye, baby weight! K.Bell debuted a fabulous post-partum figure in a crimson Zuhair Murad gown featuring a plunging neckline. Sexy, chic and red haute!Photo Credit: WENNSelena Gomez
Around the time Justin Bieber was cracking open his fifth bottle of sizzurp, Selena Gomez was strutting down the red carpet at the Vanity Fair after party in a luxe Art Deco-inspired Emilio Pucci gown. While I’m not usually a fan of see-through skirts, this look worked thanks to an intricate pattern and uniform color. Sel’s bronze makeup was also a fabulous touch, same with her sleek sexy hair. I should know by now not to expect too much flash and glitz from J.Law, but I was still a bit surprised to see how understated her orange Dior gown was compared to some of the metallic confections coming down the red carpet. The column dress fits perfectly and while I’m getting a bit tired of this silhouette on her and the same strapless look, she does make it look good, doesn’t she? I especially like the “back necklace” detail and the peplum, which doesn’t overwhelm. What did you think of JL’s highly anticipated look?Photo Credit: WENNVanessa Hudgens
While Ashley Greene went a bit more casual to Elton John’s Oscar viewing party, V.Hudge pretended that she was sashaying in straight from the awards show itself in this high-drama Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti mermaid gown with coordinating makeup and manicure. I’m not sure how she inhaled nor walked, but as long as she kept perfectly still, she looked fab. Photo Credit: WENNLupita Nyong'o
Each year Hollywood chooses a different Oscar darling and I am usually disinclined to agree—I will pick my own It Girls, thankyouverymuch—but I must say that Lupita won me over with her impeccable look last night. You don’t oft see dark-skinned stars in pastel, nor do you see an A-cup actress a Marilyn Monroe-esque dress but L did both in her pale blue Prada gown and made it work. And lucky her, blue goes so well with Oscar gold…Photo Credit: WENNZooey Deschanel
My minions and I were hotly debating ZD’s Oscar de la Renta gown—they felt it was cartoonish and low-brow, but I feel that it was perfectly in line with her quirky personality. Could you picture her in a glam metallic mermaid gown, dripping with Neil Lane diamonds? Me neither…Photo Credit: WENNDo you agree with my picks? Is there anyone I left off?
